No matter what hardships the world may throw at us, we have--in Christ--everything we need to persevere.
Despair is a deep pit; and sometimes we totter around it's edges, precariously close to falling in. Our only hope at such times is to Fix our eyes on Jesus. To keep from falling we must change our focus: from our circumstances to Christ's Presence. This requires strenuous effort on our part, our natural tendency is to keep thinking about a difficult situation ad nauseam--trying to figure it out. However, Jesus is always nearby, eager to help us change our focus time after time.
Though we may be hard pressed on every side , we need not be crushed by our difficulties. We are not alone in our battles because Christ will never, ever abandon us. Even if we are killed, we will not be destroyed. Christ is the Shepard and Guardian of our souls--the part of us that is indestructible. As the Book of John says; I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.
